Montegallo is seeking a Software Engineer for a 6-month contract to design and build internal automation services, API integrations, and user-facing internal applications. This role offers meaningful ownership of production systems with immediate, real-world business impact.

Responsibilities

Design, build, and maintain Python-based backend services and automation workflows
Develop and support API integrations across internal platforms and third-party systems
Build internal web applications and user interfaces that enable business users to interact with automation and data pipelines
Develop containerized applications and deploy them into cloud environments
Create, manage, and orchestrate data pipelines handling both structured and unstructured data
Partner closely with engineering, product, and operations teams to translate real-world requirements into working software
Produce clear documentation and participate in code reviews to ensure reliability, maintainability, and quality

Required

3–5 years of professional software engineering experience
Strong backend engineering skills with hands-on UI development experience
Comfortable owning end-to-end features (backend → APIs → UI)
Solid SQL skills and experience working alongside modern data platforms
Experience deploying and supporting containerized services in production
Pragmatic problem solver with a bias toward delivery and usability
Clear communicator who collaborates effectively within established teams and processes
Python (backend services, automation, application development)
SQL and cloud data platforms (Snowflake preferred)
API design and system integrations
UI development for internal tools (frameworks flexible)
Docker and containerized application deployment
Cloud platforms (AWS and/or Azure)

Preferred

Workflow orchestration tools (Dagster preferred)
Kubernetes exposure
Experience building admin or operational user interfaces
Document ingestion or text-extraction pipelines
Production experience with AI- or LLM-enabled systems
