Responsibilities
Performs tests in the field of bacteriology which involve isolating, identifying, typing, and grouping bacteria and fungi present in body fluids, exudate, transudate, skin scrapings, autopsy, and surgical specimens
Performs chemical tests and analyses of body fluids and other materials related to clinical medicine or research in the medical sciences, such as; chemical analyses of blood, urine, and spinal fluid
Performs various hematological tests and examinations such as red blood cell counts, white blood cell counts, sickle cell tests, studies of red blood cell morphology, hemoglobin estimations, fragility tests, sedimentation rate, coagulation time, bleeding time, clot retraction time, and indices
Prepares and examines feces and other materials for the identification of parasites and ova
Performs agglutination, flocculation, complement fixation, fluorescent antibody, and other serological tests for the detection of disease status
Assists in the teaching of laboratory technology students
Qualification
Required
Possession of a current Louisiana Clinical Laboratory Scientist-Generalist or Clinical Laboratory Scientist-Specialist license
A bachelor's degree in medical technology or clinical laboratory science; OR
A bachelor's degree in a biological, physical, or chemical science plus one year of experience as a medical technologist
Possess a current American Medical Technologist (AMT) or American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification
Possess a current Basic Life Saver (BLS) card from American Heart Association
