Responsibilities

Process biweekly/weekly payroll for hourly and salaried employees; ensure accuracy in timecards, earnings, differentials, bonuses, and retro pay
Validate timekeeping data, resolve exceptions, and reconcile payroll preview to final
Administer garnishments, wage assignments, child support, and other withholdings
Reconcile payroll journal entries and support month-end close in coordination with Finance
Prepare and maintain payroll records; assist with year-end W-2 and ACA reporting (coordinate with provider as needed)
Maintain compliance with federal, Wisconsin, and local wage and hour regulations, including overtime rules, shift premiums, and union rules (if applicable)
Administer benefits enrollment, changes, and terminations (medical, dental, vision, FSA/HSA, life/AD&D, disability, 401(k))
Conduct new hire orientation and open enrollment; support employees with eligibility, plan questions, and claims escalation
Manage benefits billing and monthly carrier reconciliations; resolve discrepancies promptly
Maintain accurate benefits data across HRIS/UKG and carrier systems; ensure timely COBRA administration (through third-party if applicable)
Support annual audits (e.g., 401(k) audit, non-discrimination testing) and ACA compliance (Forms 1094/1095)
Maintain confidential personnel and payroll files in accordance with company policy and legal requirements
Create and maintain SOPs/work instructions for payroll and benefits processes; drive continuous improvement
Support HR metrics (headcount, turnover, overtime, benefits participation, labor cost)
Partner with Safety and Operations on attendance policies, leaves, and return-to-work coordination
Assist with FMLA/Wisconsin leave administration and short/long-term disability cases

Required

3+ years of payroll and benefits experience in a multi-site or manufacturing environment
Solid knowledge of payroll fundamentals (taxation, garnishments, overtime) and benefits administration (eligibility, enrollment, billing)
Proficiency with an HRIS/Payroll platform; strong Excel skills (v-lookups, pivot tables)
High level of accuracy, organization, and confidentiality; ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Strong customer service mindset with clear, empathetic communication

Preferred

Experience with UKG (UltiPro, UKG Pro, Kronos timekeeping) for payroll/time/benefits
Experience with union payroll rules and CBAs (if applicable)
FMLA/Wisconsin leave law familiarity; ACA reporting exposure
Certification: FPC/CPP (APA) or CEBS is a plus
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in HR, Accounting, Business, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered
