Responsibilities

Drive the design and execution of high-performance components within BigQuery’s execution engine, including query optimizers and control plane components
Improve the price-performance and scale of the engine, ensuring solutions are cheap to operate, easy to maintain, and highly reliable
Partner with infrastructure teams (e.g., Colossus, MindMeld) and product teams to shape the future of the analytics experience
Foster a healthy, transparent, and collaborative team culture. You will be responsible for recruiting top talent, mentoring executive engineers, and improving team velocity and quality

Required

Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
8 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Python, C, C++, Java, JavaScript)
3 years of experience in a technical leadership role, overseeing projects, with 2 years of experience in a people management, supervision/team leadership role
3 years of experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure or distributed systems

Preferred

Master's degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field
3 years of experience working in a matrixed organization
Experience in developing query processing engines for a SQL relational database or large-scale distributed systems
Experience in distributed computing
