Operations Coordinator - Bus Stop & Street

This role includes coordinating with various transit operators and managing bus stop operations to facilitate safe and efficient service.

Responsibilities

Oversee and coordinate bus stop and bus bay operations across ART, WMATA Metrobus, and other regional transit providers to ensure safe, efficient service
Serve as the primary liaison with WMATA, ART operations contractors, and Arlington County Traffic, Engineering & Operations (TE&O) on bus access, layovers, routing, and detours
Plan, review, and approve new bus stop locations, consolidations, temporary relocations, and detours, including review of Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) plans
Identify and track bus stop infrastructure needs, defects, and required improvements; coordinate with the Bus Stop Capital Program Manager on repairs and inventory updates
Oversee the maintenance, cleanliness, and state of good repair for approximately 1,100+ bus stops and transit station bus bays, including signage, shelters, lighting, snow/ice removal, and detour notices
Coordinate installation and updates of bus stop signage, decals, schedules, and wayfinding, maintaining an accurate bus stop inventory
Monitor and coordinate impacts from construction, special events, schools, and private development affecting bus stops and transit operations
Review and approve or deny special event permits impacting transit services and facilities
Support emergency transportation operations, including coordination with the County Emergency Management Office and Operations Center during incidents
Maintain required project documentation, records, and compliance files in accordance with County, state, and federal requirements
Review and reconcile project invoices and provide monthly progress reports

Required

A Bachelor's degree in transportation planning, community planning or a related field and at least three (3) years' experience in transit service planning or operations
Demonstrate strong transit operations and supervisory experience in a team environment
Demonstrated knowledge of fixed-route bus operations, including route design
Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements in relation to pedestrian access and bus stop design
Ability to draft reports, memoranda, presentations or other materials
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, SharePoint, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Working knowledge and experience in developing and maintaining databases
Working knowledge and experience with GIS and other tools
Demonstrated concise and clear writing skills and basic familiarity with spreadsheets
Must be able to attend evening and Saturday meetings
Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check, including fingerprinting
Must be able to work varied shifts or flexible schedules as needed
Frequent periods of sitting, typing, and viewing a computer screen
Regular standing, walking, reaching, handling, talking, and hearing
Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling
Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds
Work may involve exposure to outdoor weather conditions
Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts
Occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles
Moderate noise levels
Job duties may change based on property needs
Be eligible to work in the Unites States without requiring sponsorship now or in the future (if based in the U.S.)
Successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen

Preferred

Experience operating a transit bus is preferred but not required
Possession of a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Passenger and Air Brake Endorsement preferred but not required
Experience with Microsoft Access is preferred
