RESEARCH SCIENTIST II (EPIDEMIOLOGY/BIOSTATISTICS) JC-506270

The Research Scientist II will lead data management activities and conduct analyses related to sexually transmitted infections and other emerging infections, collaborating with various health partners to support public health initiatives.

Responsibilities
Conceive, plan, conduct, organize, and lead moderately complex STI, mpox, HCV, and HIV/STI/mpox/HCV coinfection and other emerging infections surveillance and statistical analyses using established guidelines, research methods, and techniques
Research, develop, and execute editing and coding procedures for data processing and write complex computer programs using a variety of software packages (including SAS, RStudio, RShiny, RWorkbench, SQL, PowerBI, and Tableau) to assure data quality
Analyze data extracts, produce tables and presentation materials, produce state and local maps depicting the spatial distribution of STI cases, and write scientific reports summarizing the results of analyses for program use
Disseminate scientific results, findings, and program and policy recommendations to management, staff, contractors, external public health partners, and federal funders at professional meetings and conferences
Publish research findings in scientific journals and California statewide reports
Moderate overnight travel is required
Qualification
Required
Master's Degree in a relevant field is required to meet the minimum qualifications
Doctoral Degree in a relevant field is required to meet the minimum qualifications
Experience in leading data management activities
Ability to conceive, plan, conduct, organize, and lead moderately complex STI, mpox, HCV, and HIV/STI/mpox/HCV coinfection and other emerging infections surveillance and statistical analyses
Proficiency in research methods and techniques
Experience in developing and executing editing and coding procedures for data processing
Ability to write complex computer programs using software packages including SAS, RStudio, RShiny, RWorkbench, SQL, PowerBI, and Tableau
Experience in analyzing data extracts and producing tables and presentation materials
Ability to produce state and local maps depicting the spatial distribution of STI cases
Experience in writing scientific reports summarizing the results of analyses for program use
Ability to disseminate scientific results, findings, and program and policy recommendations to various stakeholders
Experience in publishing research findings in scientific journals and California statewide reports
Willingness to travel moderately overnight
