Mechanical Engineer II

Responsibilities

Perform load calculations, utility assessments, energy modeling, and code evaluations
Design mechanical systems (airside, chilled water, condenser water, hot water, steam, natural gas, compressed air, etc.) in coordination with other disciplines
Size mechanical equipment, ductwork, and piping; develop system schematics and technical design documentation
Produce plans, P&IDs, schedules, and installation details using BIM and CAD tools
Develop design and construction drawing packages; edit specifications for projects of basic to moderate complexity
Support all design phases: conceptual, schematic, design development, construction documents, and construction administration
Participate in squad checks and maintain commitment to producing accurate, high‑quality deliverables
Interface with clients, contractors, trade partners, and equipment manufacturers
Respond to RFIs, review submittals, contribute to punch lists, and assist with construction progress documentation
Work closely with senior engineers to ensure coordinated, constructible designs
Provide mentorship and task delegation to Mechanical Designer I and other early‑career team members
Engage in ongoing professional development activities
Expand technical skillsets to include design and specification of increasingly complex mechanical systems

Required

ABET-accredited Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering (mechanical focus)
Minimum 3 years of relevant engineering experience
Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam
Foundational experience performing mechanical calculations and designing HVAC, mechanical utility, and piping systems

Preferred

Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD
Proficient with Microsoft Office and Bluebeam Revu
LEED, WELL, or other sustainability‑related accreditation or experience
Experience in Life Sciences, Pharmaceutical, Biotech, Laboratory, or Food & Beverage sectors
Working knowledge of mechanical/plumbing/fire/building codes and industry standards (ASHRAE, SMACNA, ISPE, FDA, ISO, NFPA, OSHA)
Experience performing field surveys and preparing field reports
Basic plumbing design experience
Familiarity with Revit plugins (Enscape, Unifi) and parametric design workflows (Dynamo, Grasshopper, Rhino)
Strong coordination skills with internal teams, vendors, and construction partners
