IT Security Intern
Northwest Federal Credit Union is seeking qualified interns for their paid Summer Internship Program at their Corporate Office in Herndon, VA. The Information Security Intern will work with the IT Security team to maintain an enterprise-wide information security program and gain hands-on experience in various aspects of information technology.

Responsibilities
Enforcement of regulatory compliance to data access, information sharing, and protecting personally identifiable information (PII) for members and employees
Administration and maintenance of information technology to support appropriate tracking and monitoring of systems that ensure data integrity, confidentiality, and availability
Documenting information technology procedures and systems
Assist in administering some of a broad range of security applications and systems (e.g. assist in performing daily and ad-hoc duties on such systems as patch management, endpoint protection, disk encryption, e-mail gateway, web gateway, Logrhythm SIEM, and Multi-Factor Authentication)
Assist in developing, and assuring compliance with, policies for data security, management, monitoring, and audit to assure information security and reporting
Help to gather business relevant metrics to measure the efficiency and effectiveness of the security program
Assist with research and development of new security techniques, tool deployments, and methods to assess risk across the credit union
Protect the confidentiality and integrity of financial sensitive information and maintain the technical mechanisms of legitimate access and release of the data to meet the requirements of the Gramm-Leach Bliley Act (GLBA)
Performs other related duties as assigned
Remains cognizant of and adheres to NWFCU policies and procedures as well as regulations pertaining to the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA)
Qualification
Required
Must be enrolled in a credited university at the junior or senior level in pursuit of a degree in IT Security, Cyber Security or related field
Average 3.0 GPA (transcripts required)
Ability to work on-site in our Herndon, VA headquarters for the duration of June 1st – August 7th
Ability to work the hours of 8:00am – 4:30pm Monday through Friday
Ability to use standard office equipment and systems; expertise with Microsoft Office suite of products, especially Word and Excel and Visio
Accuracy and detail-orientation
Effective oral and written communication skills
IT skills such as Microsoft Active Directory/Server, or network knowledge
Preferred
Programming experience, especially in scripting languages such as Powershell or Python
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory
