i-card Programmer/Senior i-card Programmer - Hybrid
The University of Illinois System is seeking a Senior i-card Programmer to provide web application design, implementation, and support for their i-card Programs office. The role involves leading the development process, assisting with requirements gathering, and providing technical support for existing systems.

Responsibilities
Help design and develop user interfaces for i-card applications that interact with an MS SQL Server DB backend, using ColdFusion, HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, and/or other tools as required, under the direction of the Coordinator of Enterprise Systems and in coordination with the Senior Web Application Programmer and other i-card Programs personnel. (At the Senior level, this position would take more of a lead role in the development process and provide technical direction to other programmers.) (25%)
Assist with gathering requirements, designing, coding, creating application layouts, and implementing web applications and other user interfaces related to i-card Programs' operations. (The Senior level would lead requirements gathering and design sessions, and independently plan and implement projects.) (20%)
With help from the Senior Web Application Programmer, become familiar with existing i-card applications and systems to provide technical support and modifications. (The Senior level would serve as a subject matter expert for existing systems, providing advanced technical support and leading enhancements.) (15%)
In conjunction with other office staff, research best practices and suggest improvements for existing web applications. (The Senior level would identify, evaluate, and implement best practices to improve performance, security, and user experience.) (10%)
Train with Development Group members to learn the department's best practices and programming, and accessibility standards. (The Senior level would mentor junior staff and student employees in programming standards and accessibility practices.) (10%)
Provide ongoing evaluation and adjustment of security practices for i-card interfaces in order to provide optimal protection for sensitive data. (The Senior level would lead security assessments and develop strategies to ensure compliance with University data protection standards.) (5%)
Occasionally help at the ID Center with issuing and printing ID cards during Rush periods. (Same at the Senior level; may also assist with technical troubleshooting or process improvements during Rush.) (5%)
Attend training and information sharing sessions as appropriate (e.g., WebCon, Hadi monthly accessibility meetings, CF Admins meetings). (At the Senior level, may also present or share knowledge gained from professional development activities.) (5%)
Monitor industry trends and recommend best practices for the system and application environments. (The Senior level would take a proactive role in adopting new technologies and guiding the implementation of innovative solutions.) (4%)
Perform other assigned duties appropriate for a Senior/Programmer. (The Senior level would take initiative to identify improvement opportunities and lead assigned projects.) (1%)
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or equivalent
Any one or any combination totaling two (2) years (24 months) from the following categories: College coursework which includes Information Technology (IT), IT Management, Programming, IT systems, or a closely related discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent: 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months), Associate's Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months), 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months), Bachelor's Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)
Work experience in IT-related functions, such as hardware/software support, programming, network design, network engineering, IT systems integration, or a closely related field

Work experience in IT-related functions, such as hardware/software support, programming, network design, network engineering, IT systems integration, or a closely related field

Advanced technical troubleshooting skills and experience maintaining complex web applications or database systems
Ability to mentor and train junior developers or student employees on programming standards and best practices
Proven experience applying accessibility, security, and usability standards to web-based applications
Capacity to identify process improvements, propose innovative solutions, and guide the adoption of new technologies
Preferred
Bachelor's degree in a field related to the position
Familiarity with University of Illinois systems and services
Experience working with ID card issuance systems and identity assurance models
Experience with HTML5, CSS, ColdFusion, Python, C#, or MS SQL Server DB
