VDOT Inspection Technician

Legacy Engineering, P.C. is a small, woman-owned civil engineering firm specializing in land development design and construction materials testing. Responsibilities

Supports work of Project Managers throughout the course of project cycle
Records, measures, and verifies quantities
Inspects roadway materials used by the contractor (reviewing confirmation that all materials conform to owner specifications)
Performs testing of construction materials (concrete, asphalt, soils, etc.) as required by owners specifications and VDOT requirements
Works to meet and exceed client needs throughout project
Consults with supervisor to determine project details, such as plan preparation, acceptance testing, and evaluation of field conditions
Reports maintenance problems occurring at project site to supervisor and collaborates to resolve issues
Engages in self-education and training in order to keep up with current industry trends and changes
Performs responsibilities consistent with ethical engineering standards in the company handbook
Writes staff reports, daily field reports, letters, and reports on construction activities as needed
Constant communication with project VDOT Reps, owner, clients and contractors on a project/test result level and reports testing conditions in real time
Performs any other duties or responsibilities as assigned

Required

A High School Diploma (or equivalent)
Must have reliable transportation and valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record
Must be located in the Fredericksburg Area
Must have VDOT Certifications to be considered
Ability to multi-task
Must be able to work independently and with a team
Ability to read/interpret plans, specifications, and procedure manuals
Ability to write routine reports within a set deadline
Experience providing excellent customer service
Team player with great interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to lift and/or move 50+ pounds
Ability to work in all outdoor climates and mobility over various terrain
Ability to maintain a valid drivers license and reliable transportation
Attention to detail and quality, while adhering to all safety requirements
Effective verbal and written communication skills required
Use of company provided equipment and working knowledge of MS Office programs
