Responsibilities
Drive key modernization initiatives: re-platforming, microservices decomposition, containerization, service mesh adoption, serverless patterns, and API modernization
Evaluate and recommend architecture patterns balancing performance, resilience, cost efficiency, and security
Own architecture governance for payments observability and modernization
Partner with security and compliance teams to align designs with regulatory controls and payment‑specific standards
Establish and maintain architecture standards, design guidelines, and reference patterns
Define and track reliability KPIs (SLOs/SLIs, MTTR, deployment frequency, latency, error rates)
Lead post‑incident architecture reviews and drive remediation efforts that reduce recurrence and improve system resilience
Champion continuous improvement cycles based on learnings, retrospectives, and data-driven insights
Qualification
Required
15+ years of professional experience, ideally with significant tenure in payment processing or treasury environments
Proven experience mentoring senior engineers/architects and influencing technical direction (no people-management responsibilities required)
Deep technical expertise in distributed systems, payment flows (clearing/settlement, ACH, real‑time rails), APIs, messaging, and data architecture
Hands-on experience with observability tooling and SRE practices (OpenTelemetry, Prometheus/Grafana, Jaeger/Zipkin, ELK/EFK, commercial APMs)
Track record of leading modernization efforts (cloud migrations, microservices, containerization, CI/CD automation) in regulated, high‑availability payment environments
Strong awareness of payment security and regulatory frameworks (PCI‑DSS; knowledge of ISO 20022, PSD2, or real‑time rails a plus)
Experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure; event streaming platforms like Kafka; service mesh technologies (Istio/Linkerd); and IaC (Terraform, CloudFormation)
Excellent communicator able to articulate complex technical trade‑offs and influence senior stakeholders
You must currently possess valid and unrestricted U.S. work authorization to be considered for this role
