Responsibilities
Own the core reasoning system that collides marketing claims against public consensus to produce verified, auditable recommendations
Build and optimize the RAG architecture over our 75M+ entity commerce knowledge graph
Design retrieval strategies, chunking approaches, and embedding pipelines that serve both human users and AI agents with sub-200ms latency
Architect the systems that measure AI output quality at scale
Define what 'correct' means and build the machinery to enforce it
Ship features to millions of users via our ChatGPT app, agent API endpoints, and consumer interfaces
Qualification
Required
You have shipped AI products to production. Not demos. Not prototypes. Not Langchain tutorials. You have deployed AI systems that serve real users at scale, and you have the scars to prove it. You measure your work in deployed systems, not Jupyter notebooks
You have opinions about RAG. You can articulate when it fails, when it's the right tool, and the trade-offs between chunking strategies, embedding models, and retrieval vs. generation balance. You've built these systems, not just read about them
You think about evals as much as features. You understand that shipping AI without evaluation infrastructure is shipping hallucinations. You've built systems to measure output quality and have opinions about LLM-as-judge vs. human eval vs. automated metrics
You are a builder-strategist. You don't need a spec to move. Given a problem ('make recommendations more accurate'), you figure out the AI approach, make the build/buy/fine-tune decision, and ship. You own outcomes, not tasks
You are allergic to cargo culting. You distrust 'best practices' that lack underlying mechanics. You can explain why a particular prompt architecture works, not just that it works
You ship fast and iterate. You've shipped 'good enough' AI and made it better. You understand that perfect is the enemy of deployed, but you also know that deployed garbage is worse than nothing
We need 2+ years of production LLM experience, not someone who wants to learn on the job
Our AI surfaces are full-stack. You'll work across the entire system
You need to build systems that handle real-world entropy, not pristine benchmarks
