Project Engineer - Commercial Construction

Gray West Construction is currently seeking an experienced Project Engineer to join their team in Santa Ana, CA. The role involves managing project documentation, coordinating with project managers and superintendents, and ensuring quality customer satisfaction in commercial construction projects.

Responsibilities

Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills

Communicate daily with Project Manager & Superintendent
Track documentation for project delays and items at risk
Other duties may be assigned
Drawings: Updates, tracking, and distribution
Permits: Update, tracking, coordination of issuance and pulling of permits as needed
Meetings: Process & prepare meeting agendas and meeting minutes, Take minutes of all meetings and maintain, Attend Owner Meetings and Calls
RFIs: Receive, review, confirm RFI’s received by subcontractors are acceptable prior to submitting to owner/ consultants, Generate, maintain log, process, update and close RFI’s, Distribute all RFI’s, submittals, bulletins and documentation that affect work to subcontractors and ensure they are receiving all project communication
Specifications: Generate, maintain, and update document & specification log
Logs: Generate, maintain, and update Material Procurement log in coordination with the Project Schedule
Transmittals: Prepare all transmittals for deliverable items
Locations: Identify with the PM/Super on the Job Site/Plans for organization and tracking purposes
Submittals: Generate, maintain, process, update, and close submittals, Receive, review, and confirm submittals received by subcontractors are acceptable prior to submitting. Maintain submittal log
Estimating: Prepares work to be estimated by gathering proposals, plans, specifications and related documents, Identifies labor, material and durations by reviewing proposals and plans, Computes costs by analyzing material, equipment and labor
Action Plans: Review daily or weekly with Project Manager and Superintendent action item list
Change Events: Create as needed and review with the Project Team on a regular basis
Daily Logs: Review daily with Superintendent action item list
Documents: Maintain and organize all project documentation and filing system
Photos: Maintains progress photos file/ log or ensures superintendents are saving daily photos in the photos tool
Punch Lists: Generate, maintain, and update punch list
Schedules: Review/Update the construction schedule daily or weekly with the Superintendent and Project Manager, Construction Agenda / Construction Schedule
Tasks: Keep a prioritized task list of tasks to be completed, Assign tasks to others as needed
Close-Out: Assist in collection of closeout documents from subcontractors, organize and submit to owner at the end of the project
Warranty: Assist Project Managers with scheduling and the coordination of any action items or defects that may arise during our warranty period

Required

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
Ability to communicate effectively with employees, vendors, sub-contractors, and clients
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or Business Administration with a minimum of 2 years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Must have basic business mathematical skills, including ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
Be able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or other forms

Preferred

Experience in following Projects/ Markets highly preferred: Retail - National Retailers (Big Box Conversion, High-end Specialty, Roll out), Restaurant - (National Chains, Quick Service/ Fast Casual), Light Industrial, Commercial (Office, Medical Services & Wellness)
Experience in the construction industry is highly preferred
