Intern, R&D Graduate Summer - Materials Characterization & Performance, Onsite
Sandia National Laboratories is the nation’s premier science and engineering lab for national security and technology innovation. The Materials Science and Characterization Department is seeking summer interns to aid in the development of materials science ontology, working with experts to capture processes and develop tools for knowledge management in materials characterization.

Responsibilities
Work with world renowned experts in materials characterization to capture their process for investigating materials of interest to Sandia and its mission customers
Work with a team of experts in ontology research to develop and deploy new tools for capturing materials expert knowledge
Use what you learn to present to relevant stakeholders, guide experimental work, and/or improve knowledge management practices for Sandia's materials science community
Qualification
Required
Earned bachelor's degree
Currently attending and enrolled full time in the spring term immediately preceding the internship (or scheduled to graduate in the spring) in an accredited science, engineering, or math graduate program
Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
Ability to work up to 40 hours per week during the summer
U.S. citizens, legal permanent residents, asylees or refugees in the U.S
Preferred
Moderate proficiency in Python or other similar codebase
Familiarity with ontologies and/or knowledge graphs, as well as common tools for building and working with them
Pursuing a graduate degree in material/physical/chemical sciences or engineering, or computer/data sciences or engineering (with willingness to learn materials science and characterization)
