Responsibilities

Analyzes and verifies bookkeeping transactions; documents and posts financial data to accounts or ledgers; makes adjusting and reversing entries in journals and ledgers
Prepares trial balances and lists of financial data for supervisory or management staff
Reconciles individual and organizational accounts; participates in the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements and reports
Summarizes financial or statistical information and prepares routine tables, charts and graphs using elementary to intermediate mathematical formulas
Monitors organizational unit’s budgets; advises on applicability of transfers of funds to maintain accounts; authorizes fund transfers within limited County or departmental guidelines
May serve as a liaison with external auditors by providing data and reports regarding unit accounts
May supervise and/or train entry level accounting technicians or clerical support staff assigned to work unit

Required

Graduation from high school or equivalency and three years of experience in bookkeeping or accounting support work
Knowledge of established bookkeeping and accounting principles and techniques to standard and specialized accounting transactions
Knowledge of the concepts and practices of governmental fund accounting
Knowledge of office practices and procedures sufficient to plan, organize, and review the work of subordinate office support personnel
Knowledge of effective interpersonal skills sufficient to communicate, both orally and in writing, with others within and outside the organization to which assigned
Ability to understand and independently apply and interpret specific laws, departmental rules, and regulations for verifying, processing, and maintaining records and documents
Ability to summarize and compile narrative and numerical materials including verifying accounting documents and forms for accuracy and completeness
Ability to organize, maintain, and process agency records and prepare standard financial statements and reports from the books and records
Ability to establish effective work relationships with all levels of personnel within and outside the agency to which assigned
Ability to plan, organize, supervise, and evaluate the work of others
Ability to independently answer routine verbal or written inquiries on the status of accounts
Ability to use a calculator, typewriter, CRT terminal, and personal computer as required by the position

Preferred

Bachelor's Degree
1+ years of billing experience in EMR in a Public Health setting
