Supervisor - Finance & Operations

Volunteers of America-Greater New York (VOA-Greater New York) is an anti-poverty organization working to end homelessness in the New York area by 2050. They are seeking a Supervisor of Finance and Operations to ensure the financial health and compliance of the organization, manage budgets, analyze financial data, and supervise a dedicated team. This role combines financial analysis, reporting, budgeting, and oversight of government contract billing.

Responsibilities

Review and analyze financial trends impacting the bottom line and provide recommendations for operational improvements through sound analytical procedures
Prepare and review program budgets, actual variances, projections, accruals, allocations, and journal entries to ensure accuracy and balanced budgets
Support the Director during regular meetings with Program Directors to provide guidance, deliver and explain fiscal data, and actively participate in the management of the designated portfolio
Approve program purchases and monitor salary, fringe, and OTPS allocations, ensuring adherence to approved methodologies
Assist in the collaboration with program management to optimize contract funding based on financial insights
Maintain comprehensive knowledge of funder requirements, guidelines, cost manuals, and policies for compliance
Prepare CFR and other external reporting with related supporting schedules
Supervise, cross-train, and evaluate assigned staff
Review monthly billings, track revenue collection, journal entries, and strategize for cash flow optimization
Enhance the efficiency of the monthly deliverable calendar, update billing matrix for cash flow projections, and ensure a deep understanding of government billing guidelines and related cost manuals

Required

Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
five years relevant billing, budget, and financial analysis experience, including at least two years in a supervisory capacity
Knowledge and ability to use an in-house PC-based accounting system in a network environment, including ability to create, run, and verify reports
Advanced expertise with Excel/Word is essential
This position requires the ability to successfully manage multiple projects under deadlines
Strong interpersonal, communication, analytical and conceptual skills required
