Assistant General Counsel

Responsibilities

Providing tactical and strategic oversight of legal matters and managing relationships with outside counsel on cases and controversies filed against the company
Supporting employment-related matters (with an emphasis on California where applicable), including policy interpretation, dispute resolution, and compliance
Manage and improve company-wide compliance programs, including oversight of related processes and team members
Design, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and controls to support regulatory and contractual compliance
Manage pre-litigation disputes, claims, and litigation matters
Advise company leaders on legal risk, regulatory requirements, and practical risk-mitigation strategies
Conduct or support investigations, audits, and responses to regulatory or administrative inquiries as needed
Streamline legal and compliance workflows and improve operational efficiency

Required

J.D. from a qualified U.S. law school
Bar membership in at least one U.S. state in good standing
Significant experience (typically 7+ years) at a law firm or corporation running and supervising litigation
Experience in regulatory and compliance matters relevant to commercial operations
Experience providing document retention advice, conducting or supporting due diligence, and handling compliance matters
Proven ability to exercise sound judgment, prioritize and manage competing demands, and operate with a high degree of independence in a fast-paced environment

Preferred

Knowledge of California employment law is preferred, including practical experience advising on employment-related issues (e.g., wage and hour, discrimination/harassment, leaves of absence, and terminations)
