Senior Construction Inspector - Project Delivery - Public Works (6319 PEX)
The City and County of San Francisco is seeking a Senior Construction Inspector for their Public Works department, which manages a vast portfolio of construction projects across the city. Responsibilities
Understanding and interpreting contract plans and specifications to administer the contract
Performing complex mathematical computations and applying results to inspection work
Assigning and supervising the work of construction inspectors to ensure compliance with contract plans, specifications, codes, and safety regulations
Anticipating workloads and developing staffing plans; training and evaluating staff performance
Preparing and maintaining project documentation and controls, including daily reports, force accounts, materials testing, and other construction records for complex projects
Participating in and/or conducting planning, preconstruction, coordination, progress, scheduling, and field staff meetings
Reviewing plans, specifications, submittals, shop drawings, change orders, constructability reviews, and contract closeout records
Coordinating with contractors, engineers, and stakeholders to resolve disputes and complex technical issues; responding to public complaints requiring senior-level resolution
Developing and enforcing quality assurance/quality control programs for each project
Supervising inspectors in verifying and preparing quantity and progress estimates for progress payments and change order work
Monitoring project budgets and schedules to ensure compliance with contract requirements
Reporting safety and traffic hazards, defective work, and debris to the contractor and ensuring timely correction
Initiating, preparing, estimating, reviewing, and negotiating change orders
Ensuring compliance with all applicable codes, permits, and environmental regulations
Driving a vehicle to inspection sites
Qualification
Required
Six (6) years of verifiable full-time experience in construction inspection work insuring that plans and specifications are complied with, and the workmanship and material used meet specifications

Preferred
Experience serving as an owner's representative for building construction projects
Inspection experience on essential facilities such as hospitals, health centers, police stations, projects for unhoused, recreation centers, or similar critical infrastructure
Experience coordinating third-party special inspections and material testing for building construction, including foundations and superstructures, to meet building permit requirements
Possession of OSHA 30-Hour, HAZWOPER, or other applicable safety certifications
Experience training staff in construction inspection practices and/or delivering training on construction safety topics
Excellent communication skills, including the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely in both written and oral formats
Proficiency in standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook) and ability to learn new applications quickly
