Hudson Valley Community College (HVCC) is a multi-campus college located in Upstate NY, offering a variety of degree and certificate programs. They are seeking a Systems Engineer to assist with hardware and software acquisition, monitor infrastructure, and provide advanced system administration and support in a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities
Assists the Senior Systems Engineers with all hardware and software acquisition for data centers and critical infrastructure including NetApp, HPE, and VMware
Serve as backup support for all SSO components to assure access management of college services. (SAML2)
Performs all monitoring, assessing, and sizing of infrastructure
Assists the Senior Systems Engineers with threat assessment regarding CVEs and vendor patch releases
Assists the Senior Systems Engineers with installation, configuration, programming and support of college-adopted microcomputer operating systems, server operating systems, microcomputer and server application software, and web deployment software in a large server environment to address the needs and requirements of students, faculty and staff for items shown by, but not limited to, the following list:
Responsible for maintenance and security of operating system software, application software, web deployment software, data integrity, user accounts, virtual environments
Implementation of open source and commercially available software for both on-premises and cloud environments
Security assessments, performance monitoring, and load balancing
Works collaboratively with the infrastructure support staff for maintenance, problem resolution, and upgrade of installed college-adopted microcomputer, server, and web deployment software
Provides consultative support on microcomputer, server, and web deployment information technology issues to other departmental staff
Co-maintain the ACE VDI classroom virtual Windows 11 image (or any other image necessary in VMware)
Provides advanced system administration, analysis, design and programming functions for all server and workstation systems
Provides advanced application and communications software programming functions for all server and workstation systems
Provides advanced programming, scripting for all server and workstation systems
Provides advanced planning, implementation and support for operating system and other software upgrades, for authentication services, for backup, retention, and recovery procedures, for open-source and commercial software integration and for industry standards to enhance enterprise-wide functionality for server and workstation systems
Provides advanced planning, implementation and support for securing enterprise networks and large-scale server and workstation systems
Provides comprehensive technical documentation for server and workstation production environments
Provides liaison with vendors for all server and workstation systems for maintenance, problem resolution and upgrades of installed hardware and operating system, application, and communications software
Researches and recommends hardware and software for server and workstation products for individual, departmental and institutional use
Works collaboratively with the network infrastructure support staff for maintenance, problem resolution and upgrade of installed communications hardware and software and for implementation of network security hardware, software, and procedures
Provides consultative support on server and workstation technology issues to other departmental and other college staff
Maintains up-to-date knowledge and skills with current server and workstation technology systems
Performs related duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field from an accredited college or university and two (2) years' experience implementing large scale systems of virtualization, storage and network integrations in a supportive and/or co-managed role
OR Associates degree in Computer Science or related field from an accredited college or university and three (3) years' experience implementing large scale systems of virtualization, storage and network integrations in a supportive and/or co-managed role
OR five (5) years with experience implementing large scale systems of virtualization, storage and network integrations in a supportive and/or co-managed role
Proven strong system administration skills
Demonstrable experience with Linux (Ubuntu, RedHat) and Windows Server (2022, 2025) above the basic system administration level
Demonstrable knowledge of large-scale systems of storage (SAN, NAS, CIFS, NFS, iSCSI, etc.) and virtualization (VMware)
Preferred
Experience with Active Directory, GPO, NetApp, SAML2, PDQ, MDT, and Microsoft Technologies including Azure
