Reinsurance Director
Global Accounting Network is a U.S.-based specialty insurance platform seeking a seasoned Director of Ceded Reinsurance. Responsibilities
Define and implement ceded reinsurance strategies supporting program-level and enterprise objectives
Design, assess, and refine reinsurance structures to balance risk transfer effectiveness, capital efficiency, and profitability
Lead all phases of reinsurance placements, from initial analysis and structuring through execution and documentation
Evaluate reinsurance counterparties for financial strength, strategic alignment, and compliance with internal risk standards
Advise senior underwriting leadership on material reinsurance decisions and portfolio optimization opportunities
Establish and enhance best practices related to reinsurance governance, documentation, and operational workflows
Review and approve reinsurance terms, pricing, and structures to ensure economic and risk transfer objectives are met
Conduct advanced analytical reviews and modeling to assess program performance under various reinsurance scenarios
Guide decisions related to collateral arrangements in coordination with internal risk and security committees
Act as the primary internal resource for complex ceded reinsurance matters across multiple lines of business
Develop and maintain strong relationships with reinsurance brokers and market participants
Lead negotiations to secure appropriate capacity, terms, and pricing across treaty placements
Represent the organization in market discussions, placement meetings, and strategic broker engagements
Monitor market conditions and trends to inform placement strategy and structure design
Partner with underwriting and program leadership to align reinsurance solutions with growth initiatives
Collaborate with actuarial, finance, legal, and operations teams to ensure seamless execution and ongoing administration
Present reinsurance strategies, placement outcomes, and market insights to executive leadership
Provide guidance on the reinsurance implications of new programs, changes in exposure, or strategic initiatives
Contribute to cross-functional projects aimed at strengthening controls, analytics, and reinsurance operations
Qualification
Required
10+ years of progressive experience in reinsurance, with a strong focus on treaty placements
Prior experience in ceded reinsurance management, treaty underwriting, or reinsurance broking
Demonstrated experience supporting delegated authority, program, or specialty insurance models
Bachelor's degree required; preferred fields include Finance, Risk Management, Business, or related disciplines
Comprehensive knowledge of reinsurance structures and markets across multiple lines of business
Proven ability to negotiate complex reinsurance arrangements and manage long-term market relationships
Strong analytical capabilities, including evaluation of financial and risk transfer impacts
Deep familiarity with treaty wordings, contractual provisions, and coverage mechanics
Working knowledge of reinsurance credit risk, collateral frameworks, and counterparty assessment
Clear and effective communication skills, including executive-level presentations
Data-oriented mindset with comfort interpreting actuarial, statistical, and modeling outputs
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment
Solid understanding of catastrophe modeling, exposure management, and portfolio risk
Functional knowledge of reinsurance accounting and settlement processes
Preferred
Professional designations such as ARe, CPCU, CIC, or similar
Experience navigating regulatory considerations related to reinsurance transactions
Familiarity with reinsurance analytics or placement technology platforms
