Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of HII, is seeking an Electrical Engineer to support the maintenance, overhaul, and modernization of CVN68 and CVN78 Class Aircraft Carriers. The role involves researching, developing, designing, and testing electrical components and systems, with responsibilities including project management and technical leadership.

Responsibilities
Researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks
Designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes
Overall responsibilities include engineering services for ShipAlt packages preparation, configuration management, troubleshooting, maintenance, logistics, research, design upgrades, and technical liaison with the fleet or Shipyard for assigned systems
Specific responsibilities include providing engineering services as a member of the team responsible for the development, project management, and life-cycle maintenance of the Reactor Plant Instrumentation and Control Systems and/or the Propulsion Monitoring, Integrated Control, and Automation System
Expect high level of quality of documents/designs and completed within established budgets and customer need dates
Researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks
Designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for Shipboard applications/systems
Responsibilities include project management, design, manufacturing oversight, qualification testing, technical analysis, deviation resolution, and technical leadership
Shipboard visits may be necessary for problem resolution and may involve access to radiological areas
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's Degree and 9 years of relevant exempt experience
Master's Degree and 7 years of relevant professional experience
Ph.D. and 4 years of experience
Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program
Preferred
Electrical Engineering degree from an ABET accredited university
Strong project management, organizational, and computer skills (proficient with Microsoft Office products)
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write technical documents clearly, accurately, and with technical rigor
A working understanding of reactor plant systems and governing design documents
Ability to read, analyze, and design electrical schematics
The ability to work independently and within a team, with a strong sense of initiative
The ability to interface with a variety of organizations, including vendors, government representatives, shipyard engineering, and construction activities to develop, install, test, and troubleshoot electrical equipment
The ideal candidate will have experience with one or more of the following: Generic I&C, PLCs, software, control system security, and computer networks
The ideal candidate will also have experience with MIL-SPEC qualification requirements and testing, including vibration, electromagnetic interference, and NNL's design guide including MIL-DTL-23200
