Data Scientist

The Data Scientist will be a key member of the Environmental Engineering team, responsible for developing machine learning models and conducting advanced data analysis to support petroleum applications.

Responsibilities

Design and document system specifications, program workflows and user interfaces that incorporate data science techniques and methodologies tailored for petroleum applications
Develop and implement machine learning models, predictive algorithms, and statistical analysis to address specific challenges and opportunities within the industry
Conduct advanced data analysis, modeling, and visualization to generate meaningful insights from complex and large datasets
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including developers, project managers, and business stakeholders, to understand and meet system requirements
Provide ongoing support and troubleshooting for data-related issues and ensure robust and accurate data-driven solutions for petroleum processes
Participate in the full software development lifecycle, from concept and design to testing and deployment
Promote Data Democratization across the organization
Stay updated on data science trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to continuously improve and innovate our systems and processes for energy applications
Comply with Seneca’s EHSQ policies, standards and procedures and demonstrate active and regular involvement in EHSQ programs

Required

A bachelor's degree or higher in data science, computer science, statistics, mathematics, geology, geophysics, engineering, or a related field
Proficient in Python, R, SQL, Matlab, and other programming languages and tools for data science
Experience in developing and deploying machine learning models, predictive algorithms, and statistical analysis for various applications
Knowledge of the petroleum industry, its processes, challenges, and opportunities
Good communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present technical information effectively
Strong problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills
Experience in conducting advanced data analysis, modeling, and visualization using tools such as SpotFire, SQL, PowerBI, Scikit-learn, Pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib, Plotly, etc
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, learn new technologies and skills quickly, adapt to changing and dynamic environments, and work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously
Strong teamwork skills and the ability to collaborate with various technical disciplines
Experience in collaborating with cross-functional teams, including developers, project managers, and business stakeholders, to gather and understand system requirements
Familiarity with regulatory standards and environmental guidelines in the oil and gas industry
Experience in conducting system testing, debugging, and quality assurance to ensure robust and accurate data-driven solutions

Preferred

Knowledge or coursework pertaining to the subsurface hydrocarbon exploration and development or to engineering is a plus
Experience and interest in geophysics, geology and petroleum engineering is a plus
