Traffic Safety Engineering Co-op

The State of Iowa - Executive Branch is seeking an Engineering Student Co-Op interested in the Design side of Traffic Safety. This co-op position involves developing traffic signing projects on the state highway system under supervision, with opportunities for field reviews and project meetings.

Responsibilities

Investigate existing site conditions using Google Earth, as-built plans, and other internal resources
Use Microstation CADD software to develop project plans
Create 3D models for use in Microstation projects
Tabulate project quantities and develop project estimates
Draw non-standard signs using SignCAD or other sign drafting software
Draft standard drawings for plan development

Required

Completion of at least two years in civil, construction, materials, or transportation engineering, or in an engineering management curriculum at an accredited four-year college or university with eligibility for junior status upon return to school
Eligible majors: Civil engineering

Preferred

Experience with Microsoft Office and Adobe products
CADD software experience is preferred but not required
Strong communicator with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Interest in learning traffic engineering concepts, plan development, and cost estimating
