Astrix is seeking a talented early-career researcher to join their interdisciplinary team at the intersection of artificial intelligence and biological sciences. The role focuses on developing advanced machine learning approaches for genomic sequence analysis and predicting the effects of genetic variations on biological function.

Responsibilities
Design and implement deep learning architectures for interpreting DNA sequences and their functional consequences
Apply large-scale pre-trained models to enhance predictions of genetic variant impacts across diverse genomic regions
Create comprehensive validation frameworks including stratified performance analysis, robustness testing, and comparative model assessments
Utilize sequence-based models to understand variant effects in their biological context
Work with diverse genomic datasets such as chromatin accessibility data, gene expression profiles, protein-DNA binding patterns, and high-throughput reporter assays
Share insights and progress with cross-functional teams including computational scientists, geneticists, and experimental biologists
Contribute to scientific communications through internal presentations, technical reports, and potential external publications
Partner with experts spanning machine learning engineering and wet-lab biology
Qualification
Required
Master's degree holder, current doctoral candidate, or recent PhD recipient in fields such as Computational or Systems Biology, Computer Science with biological applications, Quantitative Biology, or Related interdisciplinary programs
Understanding of sequence modeling architectures and practical experience with transformer-based or convolutional approaches for biological sequences (familiarity with models like nucleotide-level foundation models, regulatory prediction networks, or genomic language models)
Ability to digest recent machine learning research and apply techniques such as calibration methods to enhance model reliability
Genuine intellectual curiosity about genomic regulation, non-coding genetic variation, or functional interpretation of genetic differences
Proficiency in Python with hands-on experience using contemporary deep learning libraries (PyTorch, TensorFlow, or JAX)
Foundational knowledge of molecular biology, particularly gene regulation mechanisms
