Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain interactive Power BI dashboards, reports, and datasets that clearly communicate key performance indicators (KPIs), trends, and compliance metrics
Write and optimize SQL queries against the ISBE data warehouse and other source systems to extract, validate, and prepare data for reporting and analytics
Analyze, cleanse, and transform data from multiple source formats, including relational databases and Excel files, some of which may contain complex formulas and structures
Develop and maintain data models using DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) to support accurate calculations, aggregations, and business logic
Collaborate closely with program-area stakeholders to understand reporting requirements and translate business needs into effective visualizations
Apply a working knowledge of GIS/Arc (ESRI) concepts to support geographically driven reporting and enhance spatial analysis within Power BI dashboards, as applicable
Optimize Power BI solutions for performance, scalability, and data refresh efficiency
Provide ongoing support, troubleshooting, and enhancements for existing Power BI reports and dashboards
Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and adherence to ISBE data governance and reporting standards
Stay current with Power BI features, visualization best practices, and reporting standards
Qualification
Required
Strong proficiency in Power BI, including dashboard design, data modeling, and DAX
Excellent SQL skills, with hands-on experience writing queries against enterprise data warehouses and source systems
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including the ability to analyze and work with complex spreadsheets and formulas
Basic to intermediate understanding of Arc / GIS concepts, including how spatial data is used in reporting and analysis
Experience working with multiple data sources such as SQL Server, Excel, Azure Data Lake, or Power BI datasets
Solid understanding of data warehousing and data modeling concepts
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team environment
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Information Systems, or a related field
Preferred
Experience with Azure data services (e.g., Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics)
Exposure to Python or R for data analysis or automation
Power BI or data analytics certifications
Prior experience supporting public-sector or education data environments
