Computational Biologist/Bioinformatician Intern

They are seeking a Computational Biology Intern to support the development and application of bioinformatics, statistics, and machine learning methods to enhance oncology drug development and biomarker discovery.

Responsibilities

Develop, maintain, and support bioinformatics and computational workflows for the analysis of multimodal oncology datasets, including molecular sequencing, chemosensitivity assay data, and digital pathology–derived features
Apply statistics, machine learning, and data science methods to identify patterns and relationships across large-scale multi-modal datasets relevant to drug response and translational research
Contribute to the development and evaluation of predictive models supporting drug development and biomarker discovery efforts
Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency, scalability, and reproducibility of existing analytical pipelines through automation, workflow optimization, and improved data handling
Prepare clear documentation, summaries, and visualizations to communicate methods, results, and insights to technical and non-technical audiences

Required

Currently enrolled or completing a master's degree or higher program in computational biology, automated science, bioinformatics, or other similar program of study at an accredited university
Practical experience developing and running NGS bioinformatics pipelines using public python and R tools/libraries
Practical experience developing, training, testing, and validating both classical and deep machine learning models using public frameworks such as scikit-learn, PyTorch, Tensorflow, etc
Practical experience performing data analysis and visualization tasks using Python and/or R in Jupyter
Experience with cloud compute infrastructure and scheduling of compute workloads for bioinformatic analysis
Problem solver – able to make well-informed, sound decisions
Highly organized, detail-oriented, accurate and thorough
Well-developed and effective communication skills

Preferred

Experience working in AWS cloud-based compute environment
Familiarity with working in a regulated (CLIA) environment
Strong biology background
Familiarity with relational databases and data modelling
Familiarity with agile software development practices
