Faculty - Human Engineering Research Laboratories
The University of Pittsburgh is seeking full-time doctoral level faculty researchers for the Human Engineering Research Laboratories (HERL) within the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. The role involves securing funding, conducting research, mentoring students, and engaging in scholarly activities as part of an interdisciplinary team.

Responsibilities
Secure peer-reviewed funding and collaborate in the conduct of research and development
Create, design, and participate in research protocols, data collection, and analysis
Dissemination of research and development through peer-reviewed publications and presentations
Advise and mentor students and post-docs who are working on research and development projects
Serve on HERL and other committees as approved by the HERL Director
Engage in scholarly activity and participate as part of an interdisciplinary team to conduct and support an externally funded, peer-reviewed research and development program
Participate in professional development activities and demonstrate leadership or leadership potential within profession
Represent HERL through service on university-level committees and in the broader community
Qualification
Required
A PhD, MD, DO, or equivalent degree in Engineering, Sciences, or Medicine is required
Skills to be an effective faculty member
Effective mentor and leader with strong interpersonal, written, oral communication skills
Ability to interact effectively with all stakeholder groups, including students, research participants, faculty, staff, and administration, as well as professional, governmental, and community partners
Possess a minimum of five years of relevant teaching/mentoring, participatory research & development, and/or administrative experience in rehabilitation, assistive technology or closely related field research
Possess organizational and teaching/mentoring skills and the ability to be a highly effective mentor to students, postdocs, and interns, and to work collaboratively in teams, including faculty/staff
The following PA Act 153 clearances and background checks are required prior to commencement of employment and as a condition of continued employment: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance
Preferred
Possess PhD in Rehabilitation Science, Engineering, Computer Science or a closely related field
Involvement in rehabilitation science, rehabilitation engineering, and/or assistive technology related organizations
