Responsibilities

Assist in cost accounting activities, including the allocation and tracking of direct and indirect costs associated with manufacturing production runs or construction projects, such as materials, labor, and overhead expenses
Monitor and reconcile work in progress (WIP) accounts, ensuring accurate valuation of unfinished goods or ongoing construction contracts using methods like percentage-of-completion or completed-contract accounting
Support the capitalization of costs by identifying eligible expenditures (e.g., equipment upgrades, site development) and recording them as fixed assets on the balance sheet, while expensing non-capitalizable items appropriately to comply with GAAP/IFRS standards
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including variance analysis between budgeted and actual costs, highlighting discrepancies in WIP or capitalized assets
Collaborate with operations teams to gather data on inventory levels, project timelines, and cost drivers, providing insights to improve efficiency and reduce waste in manufacturing or construction workflows
Assist in internal audits and compliance checks related to cost controls, ensuring adherence to industry regulations and company policies
Contribute to budgeting and forecasting processes by analyzing historical cost data and projecting future expenses for WIP and capital projects
Use financial software (e.g., ERP systems like SAP or Oracle) to input data, generate reports, and maintain accurate records of cost allocations and asset depreciations
Participate in cross-functional meetings to discuss financial implications of new manufacturing techniques or construction bids, offering junior-level recommendations

Required

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA certification in progress is a plus
Relevant experience in accounting or finance, preferably in manufacturing, construction, or a similar industry
Strong understanding of cost accounting principles, including job costing, process costing, and standard costing methodologies
Familiarity with work in progress (WIP) accounting and the capitalization of costs, including rules for asset recognition and depreciation
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (advanced functions, pivot tables) and experience with accounting software
Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail and the ability to handle numerical data accurately
Strong communication skills for collaborating with non-finance teams, such as project managers and engineers
Ability to work under deadlines in a team-oriented environment, with a proactive approach to problem-solving
Knowledge of relevant regulations, such as tax implications for capitalized assets or industry-specific standards (e.g., ASC 606 for revenue recognition in construction)
