Remote Storm Operations & Meteorology AI Intern (Summer)

Rainy Day Weather (RDW) is seeking a highly motivated Remote Storm Operations & Weather AI Intern for a 10-week paid summer internship. This role focuses on providing operational support during storm chase season and involves tasks such as forecast briefings, live weather monitoring, and contributing to the development of a Weather AI assistant.

Computer Software

Responsibilities

Prepare daily morning forecast briefings during chase season, including target areas, storm modes, and confidence assessments
Monitor real-time weather data during active events, including radar, SPC products, warnings, and mesoscale trends
Provide live operational support during storm chases and livestreams by flagging storm intensification, new development, warning issuance, and optimal repositioning opportunities
Post time-sensitive weather clips (e.g., tornadoes, significant severe weather moments) to RDW platforms in real time when the primary operator is unavailable, following established posting guidelines
Edit short-form and long-form videos prepared for voice-over
Build storm chase recap videos and event summaries
Create original weather graphics such as radar loops, timelines, and summaries
Clip, organize, and archive livestream and chase footage
Spearhead development of an RDW Weather AI Assistant (LLM)
Build and organize a structured knowledge base of common weather questions
Help design prompt logic, response guardrails, and system documentation
Support use cases for livestream chat, post-event summaries, and forecast explanation

Required

Current undergraduate or graduate student in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or a related field
Strong understanding of severe weather processes and forecast interpretation
Comfortable working in time-sensitive, high-impact weather situations
Python or basic scripting
AI tools and prompt engineering
Video editing (Premiere Pro, CapCut, Final Cut, etc.)
Weather graphics and data visualization
Organized, self-directed, and able to work independently in a remote environment
