Senior LevelWillow Creek Press is seeking a hands-on Fractional / Interim Controller to actively work inside NetSuite, stabilize the general ledger, and lead a cleaner, faster month-end close. This role involves direct execution of general ledger tasks and designing a streamlined accounting structure for efficiency and scalability.

Responsibilities
Take direct ownership of the general ledger in NetSuite
Personally review, post, and approve journal entries as needed
Identify, reduce, and eliminate unnecessary manual journal entries
Simplify and rationalize the chart of accounts and GL mappings
Design a cleaner close architecture that relies on process and structure, not workarounds
Lead and tighten the month-end close (checklists, deadlines, ownership, accountability)
Ensure accurate accruals, cutoffs, and reconciliations across all balance-sheet accounts
Deliver clear, decision-ready reporting: cash, AR/AP, budget vs. actuals, risks, and actions
Establish accounting standards and documentation that scale beyond the interim period
Assess current accounting roles, responsibilities, and capacity, and make recommendations to align structure with business needs
Evaluate existing accounting processes and NetSuite usage to identify efficiency, automation, and scalability opportunities
Hands-on GL management and close leadership
Oversight and support of daily accounting operations with an execution mindset
Maintain balance-sheet integrity through disciplined reconciliations and review
Improve NetSuite workflows, saved searches, and reporting to reduce manual effort
Lead NetSuite process improvements to reduce manual work, improve leverage, and unlock system potential as the business scales
Partner with leadership on a streamlined accounting vision aligned with future growth
Prepare the team and system for a smooth handoff to a permanent Controller or internal lead
Qualification
Required
Proven Controller-level experience in NetSuite
Strong hands-on general ledger and journal entry expertise
Demonstrated ability to simplify complex or messy accounting environments
Track record of improving processes and system leverage within NetSuite
Comfortable operating directly in the ERP, not delegating everything
Clear communicator who balances speed, accuracy, and practicality
Experience in small to mid-sized companies where execution matters
