Laboratory Assistant 1
The University of California, Riverside is focused on developing citrus Huanglongbing resistance through breeding. The Laboratory Assistant I will assist in projects related to citrus breeding, molecular analysis of hybrids, and metabolomics under the supervision of the PI.

Responsibilities
Assist in projects related to citrus breeding, molecular analysis of hybrids, and metabolomics
Follow the University guidelines and take the required safety courses
Assist the PI in conducting pathogenicity experiments in the Biological safety level 3 facility
Care for grafted plants and maintain inventories for four greenhouses
Enter data for the Field book app and update this information as needed
Assist the team in preparing for genotyping experiments
Assist the team in fruit analysis that involves collecting fruit from the pollinated plants for metabolomic analysis
Take pictures of fruits, juicing them, and labeling tubes containing the juice
Process seeds obtained from pollinated fruits, conduct sanitation procedures, and help in planting seeds
Conduct DNA and RNA extractions, as well as assist the team in conducting qPCR assays
Collaborate with the group to complete the required tasks during field planting
Cooperate with the PI and other members of the lab (including student workers) to accomplish the tasks required for the research projects
Qualification
Required
Undergraduate degree in a scientific discipline
Minimum 2 years of laboratory experience
Ability to follow directions in sample collection, data entry and inventory management
Preferred
Knowledge about plant care at the contained research facility and APHIS certified greenhouses. Citrus grafting
Laboratory skills including DNA and RNA extractions, autoclave use, ability to manage the Environment and safety issues in the lab
Ability to work cooperatively with other team members. Good communication skills
