Sewer Cleaner/Vac-truck Operator
City of Boise is seeking a Sewer Cleaner/Vac-truck Operator to operate, maintain, and repair the city's wastewater collection system. The role involves using advanced equipment and performing general maintenance to ensure public health and environmental protection.

Responsibilities
Handles moderately complex issues and problems and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff
Is capable of performing all duties of a Utilities Technician I and provides team support and training, as needed
Operates advanced high-velocity combination sewer cleaning/vacuum trucks and related equipment
Performs general maintenance and cleaning duties on the city’s wastewater collection system
Cleans and jets sewer mains and laterals, operates a high-pressure jetter, manual power rodder and hand rodder to remove debris from inside pipes and vacuums debris from manholes, lift stations, vaults and related structures
Reports collection system performance to the supervisor, maintains written and computerized records
Performs field observations and coordinates with the assigned supervisor to establish inspection and cleaning goals
Reviews daily work assignments and manages time efficiently
Inspects and maintains assigned equipment and vehicles
Performs safety checks and inspects fluid levels of vehicles and equipment
Maintains safety-related equipment including air monitoring devices, signs used for traffic control, fall protection gear and first-aid kits
Performs work in confined spaces and performs necessary precautions prior to entering confined spaces with potentially hazardous atmospheres
Uses air quality monitors and ventilators
Sets traffic control including safety devices, signs and barricades and ensures the safety of the public and the work crew
Utilizes computer programs to enter data and create maintenance records to ensure compliance with local, state and federal rules, regulations and laws
Reads and interprets blueprints and technical manuals to research and order parts and equipment
Reviews and analyzes Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to troubleshoot problems in the collection system and locate underground assets to protect the city infrastructure from damage
Marks underground utility locations in compliance with state requirements
Attends and completes assigned training as required to ensure compliance with city policy, state and federal regulations and maintain professional licensing and certification
Maintains a safe, clean and orderly work environment
Demonstrates a full understanding of applicable policies, procedures and work methods associated with assigned duties
Provides customer service and responds to questions, inquiries, problems and complaints from the general public
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or equivalent
2 years of experience operating a Class A or B commercial vehicle with air brake, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience
Valid unrestricted Class B commercial driver's license with tanker endorsement
Commercial driver's license tanker endorsement within three months of employment
Ability to obtain a Wastewater Treatment Operator Class I certificate or Operator in Training (OIT) within six months of employment
Valid state-issued driver's license
City of Boise background check processes which includes a criminal history check and reference checks in accordance with the City of Boise Hiring Process Regulation
Driving Record Check
Drug Free Workplace: In accordance with the City of Boise Drug Free Workplace Regulation, this position is designated as safety sensitive and is subject to testing requirements including Post Offer Applicant Testing, Random Testing, Reasonable Suspicion, Post - Accident, etc. Applicants will be required to submit to screening for illegal drug use prior to hire. Appointment to this position is contingent upon a negative pre-employment drug test
Persons in this position must have a CDL that can handle a gross vehicle weight rating of 26,001 or more pounds
Knowledge of computer usage including related software
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, safety data sheets (SDS) and other safety procedures
Ability to maintain state and city-required licenses and certificates
Ability to communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance
Individuals must be capable of operating vehicles safely and have an acceptable driving record
Preferred
Four years of experience operating a Class A or B commercial vehicle with air brake and tanker endorsements
Knowledge of cleaning, inspection and repair techniques of sewer lines
Operation and maintenance of various types of sewer line cleaning and maintenance equipment along with related safety procedures and techniques
General business office and telephone etiquette, office equipment and procedures
Record keeping and filing practices
General customer service techniques
Valid unrestricted Class A commercial driver's license with tanker endorsement
Wastewater Collection Operator Class II or higher license
Experience and understanding of underground or wastewater utility work
