Maternal Program Coordinator

Responsibilities

Coordinates the clinical management of the maternal patient population and their families across the entire continuum of care
Serves as a leader for the maternal quality assurance performance improvement program
Acts as a clinical resource/ role model for all areas caring for maternal patients
Provides and/or coordinates educational activities for both staff and patients
Acts as a community liaison on behalf of the program and hospital
Directly involved in the marketing/promotion of services provided
Participates in hospital or departmental performance improvement activities, and seeks opportunities to improve department and inter-department processes
Serves as a resource to department staff, students, volunteers and other departments, and contributes to the teamwork essential to ensuring quality patient care
Takes appropriate measures to ensure safety of staff and patients
Oversees implementation of The Joint Commission guidelines related to the maternal population
Facilitates the Maternal Interdisciplinary Committee
Works collaboratively with the Maternal Medical Director and OB/GYN Department chair and other physicians to ensure best evidenced-based care is delivered
Assesses the needs for policies, procedures, protocols, supplies and equipment relating to the care of neonatal patients in coordination with the Maternal Medical Director, hospital administration and clinicians
Assists the Maternal Medical Director in the development, implementation and evaluation of a quality and process improvement plan that is multidisciplinary and focused on patient outcomes
Serves as the coordinator of the identification, investigation, reporting and follow-up of incidents and quality issues throughout the program along with the department manager and director
Stays current in maternal patient care guidelines
Maintains at least 8 hours of maternal CNE annually
Responsible to maintain quality and integrity of the maternal program
Ongoing maternal data analysis
Works with the Women and Children Line Leader to meet financial goals
Facilitates cost-containment
Educates nursing staff and other disciplines in assessment and care of maternal patients of all ages and gestations
Collaborates with the Maternal Service Line Leader and Quality to promote the strategic goals of the organization of improving maternal care
Collaborates in the development, implementation, education, and distribution of maternal information/materials related to patient/family education
Conducts routine rounds on nurses to assure continuity of care, satisfaction, and communication
Functions as a facilitator for nursing excellence
Participates in health promotions and educational community involvement and life time learning
Participates in development and evaluation of professional practice by participating on unit and/or hospital committees, special projects and attendance at staff meetings and town halls
Actively participates in hospital performance improvement activities
Develops, coordinates and implements orientation, nursing education and in-service programs related to care and management of maternal patients in conjunction with the Department of Education and Training and the Maternal Department Clinical Education Specialist
Directs community maternal education and prevention programs by developing, implementing and evaluating programs for targeted populations in the city and surrounding communities, as well as other topics identified through a needs assessment for the community
Attends county and state-wide meetings pertinent to maternal care, as well as professional meetings
Participates in the Perinatal Care Region of the North Central Texas Trauma Regional Advisory Council (NCTTRAC)

Required

Advanced Cardiac Life Spt must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
Advanced Fetal Monitoring must be obtained within 1 year of employment start date
Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
Intermediate Fetal Monitoring must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
Neonate Resuscitate must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
STABLE must be obtained within 60 days of employment start date
(C-EFM) Certification in Electronic Fetal Monitoring - (through National Certification Corp. – NCC) or C-FMC (through Inteleos)
Existing employees as of 01/01/2024 with 2 years of L&D experience must obtain certification in fetal monitoring no later than 12-31-2024
L&D RN new hires with 2 years of experience must obtain certification within 6 months of date of hire
L&D RN hires with less than 2 years of experience will be required to obtain certification within 6 months of reaching their 2 years of experience in L&D
The certification must be maintained and renewed every 3 years
(RNC-OB) Inpatient Obstetric Nursing must be obtained within 1 year of employment start date
AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Certificate
AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring Certificate within 1 year of hire
Specialty Certification RNC-OB within 1 year of hire
TX RN License or RN Compact State License
BSN required; MSN preferred
Membership in professional organization
Minimum +3 years experience working in maternal care
Minimum of 3 years' experience in Labor and Delivery
Degree of Supervision required

Preferred

Specialty Certification C-ONQS preferred
