Senior Software Engineer (Remote)
CincyBrianHires is a company focused on solving complex technical problems, and they are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to own backend architecture and lead technical discussions. The role involves managing cloud infrastructure, building CI/CD pipelines, and mentoring other engineers while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities
Own backend architecture end-to-end: services, data pipelines, search indices, authentication systems, workflow engines, and API design
Manage cloud infrastructure (AWS) and implement Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) solutions
Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines , automated test suites, and performance tooling to ensure engineering velocity and cost efficiency
Design and deliver key backend features in collaboration with other engineers and cross-functional teams
Lead technical discussions on frameworks, schema design, scalability, and long-term architecture decisions
Mentor other engineers and help elevate backend engineering across the org
Qualification
Required
5+ years backend engineering experience (ideal range: 6–14 years)
Experience owning or leading backend architecture at a startup or scaling company
Experience working on systems with data processing, multi-step workflows, queues, event-driven communication, or large-scale computations
Strong expertise in systems architecture, object modeling, API contracts, and database schema design
Experience with TypeScript, Python, or Go (any combination is fine)
Familiarity with distributed systems and messaging (e.g., Kafka or similar)
Strong SQL fundamentals; Postgres experience preferred
Experience managing infrastructure on AWS
Hands-on experience with IaC tools (Pulumi preferred, Terraform acceptable)
Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines, cost management, testing frameworks, and release automation
Able to independently make architectural decisions without relying on escalation
Comfortable collaborating with technical and non-technical stakeholders
Strong communication skills and ability to mentor other backend engineers
Willingness to grow into engineering management (role will remain ~70% IC for now)
Based in the United States
Comfortable working fully remotely (or hybrid if NYC-based)
Able to participate in a 3-step interview process focusing on architecture, systems design, and technical depth
Preferred
Previous experience as an early engineer, team lead, or technical founder is a plus
