Financial Analyst / Grants Manager
The Center for Climate and Energy Solutions (C2ES) is dedicated to securing a safe and stable climate by promoting a low-carbon economy. They are seeking a Financial Analyst / Grants Manager to manage financial allocations within grants and provide financial analysis to support reporting to donors. This role involves collaboration with finance teams and ensuring compliance with grant requirements.

Responsibilities
Works collaboratively with the other members of the Finance and Administration teams and fulfills the role of primary individual focused on appropriate financial compliance with and allocation of expenses to grants and other funding sources
Oversees the optimal allocation of program, operations, and indirect expenses within the organization’s portfolio of grants and other funding sources
Maintains schedule of grants and other funding sources with their respective budgets, restrictions, indirect rates, and financial reporting and invoicing requirements
Collaborates in and maintains systems for accounting processes to ensure expenses are allocated and coded in accordance with grant and program budgets and restrictions
Detects and investigates inconsistencies and errors in allocations, and prepares documentation to aid in the correction of these
Enters or imports adjustments in accounting system to reallocate expenses as appropriate
Assists the Director of Finance with indirect cost allocation, recognition of revenue when dependent on expenditure, and recording of the release of restricted net assets from restriction
Participates in the preparation and management of organization, program, and grant budgets
Prepares monthly program and grant budget-to-actual statements. Review these statements with Program Vice Presidents, Chief Financial Officer, and Director of Finance to detect necessary adjustment to recorded expenses and future expense allocations
Predicts and suggests adjustments to program and grant budgets to Chief Financial Officer and Program Vice Presidents to reflect actual expenditure and future resources required
Records adjustments to these budgets if approved, and works with Development staff when grant budget adjustments need to be communicated or approved by donors
Assists the Chief Financial Officer, Program Vice Presidents, and Director of Finance with the preparation of organization, program, and grant budgets
Assists the Director of Finance and Chief Financial Officer with the management and budgeting of indirect cost pools
Assists with overall management of grant and funding agreement portfolio
Reviews all grant and funding agreements, is completely familiar with terms of each, and summarizes relevant terms within schedule of grants and funding sources
Monitors organization’s financial and administrative compliance with terms of grant and other funding agreements, and alerts Chief Financial Officer and Director of Finance of instances or risks of non-compliance
Assists the Chief Financial Officer and Director of Finance in preparing donor financial reports
Provides schedules and supporting documentation for annual external audit of financial statements and other audits and due-diligence requirements
Performs other financial analyses and financial modeling in response to needs of organization
Develops, disseminates, and maintains tools to enable effective and efficient collaboration with others in Program, Finance, and Administration within the processes under the responsibility of this position
Fulfills one or more roles in the organization’s Internal Controls processes
Participates actively and thoughtfully in staff meetings, trainings, retreats, team building, and other events
Performs willingly other duties as assigned within a dynamic organization
Qualification
Required
Expert knowledge of budgeting and management of restricted grant portfolios in a nonprofit organization, especially foundation grants and restricted contributions from major donors
Applied knowledge of cost accounting for an accrual accounting organization
Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying both standard and unique grant restrictions to the allocation of expenses to grants
Thorough understanding of and ability to interpret and apply multiple indirect cost pools with different bases and different rates to summarized program expenditure
Experience with the development and management of program and administration budgets
Reporting proficiency with standard accounting software systems, particularly Abila MIP. Experience entering reallocations and adjustments within such a system highly desired
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including pivot tables and lookup functions
Proficiency with csv-based data import/export including data reformatting using advanced Excel functions
Proficiency with Microsoft Access or other relational database construction highly desirable
Experience with budget modeling software integrated with accounting software or part of an ERP also highly desirable
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Professional written and verbal communication skills
Contribute to a positive organizational culture, including by participating in regular events such as all-staff meetings and meetings of the Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) Council, and by seeking to model the organization's values
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or related discipline required; or three (3) years experience in a middle-level position tracking allocation of expenses and budget management within a grants portfolio at a nonprofit organization
Minimum five (5) years of nonprofit organization grants administrative experience required
Experience participating in multiple aspects of External Organizational Audit required, preferably supporting overall management of audit
