Responsibilities
Inspect and sample incoming raw materials, bulk ingredients, and packaging components (e.g., bottles, caps, pumps, labels, cartons)
Verify supplier Certificates of Analysis (CoA) and ensure conformance to approved specifications
Conduct visual inspections and basic physical tests (e.g., appearance, odor, color, label alignment, component dimensions)
Tag and release accepted materials for production; quarantine and document any non-conforming materials
Maintain accurate inspection records, lot traceability, and status labeling in compliance with company procedures
Work with the quality manager to establish an Inspection Program that covers inbound, in-process and outbound inspection processes and protocols
Perform in-process checks during manufacturing and filling to verify compliance with batch records, specifications, and quality standards
Perform checks on bulk batches and finished products to ensure alignment with standards prior to the next stage in production
Monitor product attributes such as fill weights, torque, seal integrity, label alignment, and overall appearance
Verify that operators are following correct batch and packaging procedures
Conduct line clearance inspections between production runs to ensure proper cleaning, labeling, and lot control
Escalate any deviations, non-conformances, or out-of-specification (OOS) results immediately to the Quality Manager or QA Lead
Record inspection results accurately in paper and/or electronic logs (QMS, ERP, or inspection database)
Maintain traceable documentation for all inspected lots and batches
Follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), ISO 22716, and company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
Assist in root cause investigations or corrective actions related to material or line quality issues
Ensure inspection and measurement tools (scales, gauges, torque meters) are calibrated and in good working order
Maintain a clean, organized inspection area and adhere to all safety and hygiene requirements
Communicate quality findings and trends to Production and Quality teams promptly and constructively
Participate in training sessions related to quality standards, product specifications, and GMP compliance
Qualification
Required
High school diploma or GED required
1–3 years of experience in manufacturing, packaging, or quality inspection, preferably in a CPG, cosmetics, or personal care environment
Knowledge of GMP, ISO 9001, or ISO 22716 practices
Familiarity with quality inspection tools (calipers, torque testers, scales, etc.)
Preferred
Associate degree or technical training in Quality, Manufacturing, or related field preferred
