Entry, Mid, Senior LevelNEOGOV is seeking a Local Government Specialist to work hands-on with communities throughout Alaska, providing support in areas such as local elections and financial management. Responsibilities
Offer support in local elections and financial management

Provide guidance on Alaska Statute Title 29 and related regulations
Qualification
Required
Understanding the unique challenges and strengths of rural communities
Knowing how to meet people where they are and offer real support that makes a difference
Experience leading workshops or training sessions for adults, whether face-to-face or remotely over platforms like Zoom or MS Teams
Expressed confidence explaining rules, policies, or regulations clearly, whether you're talking to community members, coworkers, or government folks. Written or spoken, you know how to get your point across
Demonstrated hands-on experience with accounting software (like QuickBooks or Quicken) and can interpret budgets or financial statements without breaking a sweat, especially in a government or nonprofit setting
Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in Administration and Management: Knowledge of planning, coordination, and execution of business functions, resource allocation, and production
Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving: uses a logical, systematic, sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on one's knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary
Oral and Written Communication: Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral and written presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately

Equivalent to those typically gained by: Any combination of preparatory post-secondary education and/or experience in accounting, budget administration, financial services, social services, public administration, legal or paralegal services, grant development, and/or providing administrative support to a business, organization, or program
A completed Local Government Specialist Flex 1 Training Plan OR Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving
A completed Local Government Specialist Flex 2 Training Plan OR Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in Advocacy: Organizes and leads advocacy efforts with local, state, and federal government entities and elected officials that support the mission of an agency
Self-Management: Sets well-defined and realistic personal goals; displays a high level of initiative, effort, and commitment towards completing assignments in a timely manner; works with minimal supervision; is motivated to achieve; demonstrates responsible behavior
Teaches Others: Helps others learn; identifies training needs; provides constructive reinforcement; coaches others on how to perform tasks; acts as a mentor
Technical Competence: Uses knowledge that is acquired through formal training or extensive on-the-job experience to perform one's job; works with, understands, and evaluates technical information related to the job; advises others on technical issues
COVER LETTER: Provide a cover letter detailing your experience teaching adults and/or writing or proofreading technical documents, municipal or tribal documents, or financial documents

This position requires frequent travel to rural communities in Alaska, some of which have no commercial accommodations and requires the incumbent to sleep in city hall or in a school. In addition, travel to these rural communities may be via small planes and other conveyances
