Research Scientist/Engineer 1
The University of Washington is seeking a Research Scientist/Engineer 1 in the Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology. The role involves supporting research projects related to viral replication and drug efficacy, conducting assays, and analyzing sequencing data.

Responsibilities
Conduct neutralizing antibody assays, viral culture isolation, and molecular testing for respiratory viruses
Design and perform PCR, qPCR, and digital PCR assays, including assay validation and troubleshooting
Prepare next-generation sequencing (NGS) libraries and analyze sequencing data using established pipelines and software
Interpret and evaluate experimental data; identify deviations and communicate findings to senior scientists
Support development and optimization of laboratory methods in PCR, NGS, phage display, and serological profiling
Draft and contribute to scientific manuscripts, reports, data summaries, figures, and presentations
Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and associated software
Maintain accurate laboratory records and perform literature reviews to support research objectives
Manage specimen inventories, reagents, and laboratory supplies; perform routine lab maintenance
Participate in lab meetings, provide project updates, and perform related duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Microbiology or related field and one year of lab experience working with viruses or a closely related life-science field
Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration
Must have experience performing neutralizing antibody assays for respiratory viruses and mpox, viral culture and isolation, ddPCR for HIV, qPCR, primer and probe design experience, next-generation sequencing and DNA sequencing analysis for Norovirus, use of DNA sequence analysis programs

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong presentation skills
