Multimedia Designer - Digital Learning - UTK

The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, is seeking a creative and highly skilled Multimedia Designer to join the Marketing team within Digital Learning. This role is key in shaping and executing strategic multimedia content that promotes the University’s online programs, primarily through the Vols Online website and various digital channels.

Responsibilities

Create and deliver compelling visual content that supports marketing goals across digital channels. Produce and refine video, motion, and photographic assets for campaigns, programs, and events, ensuring platform-ready execution and brand consistency. Oversee projects from initial planning through final delivery, collaborating with cross-functional partners to bring ideas to life, maintain organized asset libraries, and clearly communicate creative direction to stakeholders
Concept, design, and produce high-quality multimedia content including promotional videos, animations, and motion graphics that align with campaign objectives
Delivers high-visibility multimedia content that directly supports campaign performance, brand storytelling, and audience engagement
Capture + edit still photography for campaigns and events
Capture footage for short form social clips, long form video, and program marketing
Edit and optimize video for various platforms such as the Vols Online website, digital advertising, email marketing, and social media
Lead the full production cycle—from storyboarding and scripting support to directing shoots and post-production
Ensure all multimedia content adheres to UT branding guidelines and accessibility standards
Manage digital assets, organize project files, and maintain a consistent multimedia aesthetic across campaigns
Work cross-functionally with writers, designers, developers, faculty, and academic departments to produce meaningful, relevant content
Present and communicate creative concepts clearly to internal stakeholders
Apply professional creative judgment across a range of multimedia design and production assignments
Establishes the visual style, motion approach, and overall creative direction for multimedia assets in alignment with brand and campaign goals
Identify and shape multimedia opportunities that support Digital Learning and Vols Online objectives. Apply market awareness, performance insights, and audience data to guide creative decisions and improve effectiveness across channels. Contribute to campaign ideation, tailor visual approaches to different audiences and funnel stages, and introduce new formats, tools, or methods that expand reach and strengthen engagement through video and motion content
Take initiative in researching and identifying multimedia content opportunities that align with the goals of Digital Learning and Vols Online
Analyze trends in higher education marketing, digital advertising, and multimedia engagement to inform content strategy
Use insights from campaign performance, user behavior, and platform analytics to independently refine creative direction and optimize multimedia outputs
Proactively develop multimedia strategies tailored to various digital channels, audience segments, and stages of the enrollment funnel
Participate in brainstorming campaign ideas for student and program marketing features
Recommend new formats, tools, or approaches to enhance the impact and reach of digital campaigns through video and motion content
Produce complex multimedia assets that require creative problem-solving, originality, and thoughtful execution across platforms
Select appropriate multimedia formats (video, animation, motion graphics, interactive assets) that align with campaign strategy, timelines, and available resources
Leads with organization, adaptability, and collaboration to support high-impact creative work across Digital Learning marketing initiatives. Brings structure to creative development, balances competing priorities, and partners closely with cross-functional teams to align execution with shared goals. Leverages insight, data, and feedback to strengthen outcomes, contribute to team growth, and elevate overall creative performance
Establish clear frameworks, documentation, and repeatable processes to support consistent creative development
Manage multiple projects simultaneously with strong prioritization, ownership, and follow-through
Adapt quickly to performance data, feedback, and evolving priorities
Collaborate closely with designers, strategists, and stakeholders to elevate ideas and ensure aligned execution
Influence creative direction through expertise, clarity, and trust rather than formal authority
Foster alignment around shared messaging frameworks and campaign objectives
Use data, testing, and performance insights to inform decisions and refine creative output
Continuously seek opportunities to improve clarity, effectiveness, and overall impact
Share knowledge, tools, and best practices to support team growth and development
Perform other duties as assigned in support of Digital Learning marketing goals
Integrates stakeholder input, creative briefs, and performance insights to develop cohesive multimedia assets that support broader marketing initiatives

Required

Bachelor's degree in Marketing and Communications, Design, or equivalent experience
Three to five years of experience in one or more of the following areas: Marketing and Communications, Graphic or Digital Design, Motion or Video Design, Photography

Preferred

Master's degree in Motion or Video Design, Graphic or Digital Design, Communications or Marketing, or equivalent experience
Five years of experience as a Multimedia Designer
Two to three years of experience in higher education
