Part-Time Student Garden Programming Assistant Instructor
Indiana University is seeking a Part-Time Student Garden Programming Assistant Instructor at Hilltop Garden and Nature Center. The role involves assisting with gardening education programs, leading sessions for families, and supporting garden maintenance and events.
Higher Education
Responsibilities
Assists Family Gardening Program Instructor with planning, preparing, and leading 4 weekly, 90 minute Family Gardening Program sessions for families with children ages 3-9 years of age
Provides a safe learning environment
Directs volunteers in garden maintenance
Performs general garden maintenance: weeding, watering, mulching, harvesting, pest management, composting
Assists with school field trips and summer camps visiting Hilltop
Assists with Hilltop events and programs
Qualification
Required
Currently enrolled as a student at Indiana University
Experience facilitating learning experiences for children
Good communication and organizational skills
Willingness and enthusiasm to help children and adults from diverse backgrounds learn basic gardening skills, with a focus on using organic and sustainable gardening methods
Ability to work independently in the garden, problem solve and make decisions quickly
Preferred
Degree in Environmental Education, Elementary or Early Childhood Education, Environmental and Sustainability Sciences, Environmental Management, Youth Development, Recreation Therapy, Parks, Recreation and the Outdoors, or Public Health
Musical, theatrical, and arts and crafts experience
First Aid/CPR certification is a plus
