Research Assistant 1 (1 year term)

Responsibilities
Perform research work in a medical and related technical areas using lab skills, and assist in laboratory assays for sepsis and hemolysis for mouse surgeries. This includes setting up, shadowing and assisting with daily experiments, ELISpot, ELISA, and other biochemical assays
Conduct descriptive analyses of samples. Record results for a particular experiment or closely related series of experiments using GraphPad prism data entry, sigmaplot, and Microsoft Excel
Maintain records from each experiment in a laboratory notebook. Provide basic analyses including data presentation to the principal investigator
Maintain test equipment such as flow cytometry, ELISpot, microplate reader, microscopy, and animal surgery anesthesia equipment, utilized in experiments
Order laboratory supplies for experiments in consultation with senior laboratory staff
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in science and 0 to 1 year of experience or Associate's degree in an approved biotechnology program and 0 to 2 years of experience required
Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within an immunology laboratory. This includes pipetting, use of a multiplate reader, making molar solutions, and understanding basics of ELISA and ELISpot
Ability to rely on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job
Ability to operate laboratory equipment including flow cytometry, ELISpot, microplate reader, microscopy, and animal surgery anesthesia equipment
Demonstrated history of successful support, education, and advocacy for all students, aligned with the values, mission, and messaging of the university, while adhering to the staff policy on conflict of commitment and interest
Ability to meet consistent attendance
Ability to interact with colleagues, supervisors and customers face to face
Must demonstrate compliance with Case Western Reserve University animal research and care (ARC) policies and procedures and compliance to regulations of the Animal Welfare Act, Public Health Service Policy, AAALAC guidelines and other applicable regulatory guidelines
Must demonstrate compassion for animals within Case Western Reserve University facilities and dedication to the Animal Resource Center's mission. Must handle animals with care and respect at all times
