Material/Process Inspector I-III Beaumont District Lab
The Texas Department of Transportation is seeking a Material/Process Inspector I-III to join their Lab Team responsible for testing materials used in state highway construction. The role involves conducting material tests, coordinating with engineers and suppliers, and ensuring compliance with specifications to maintain the quality of Texas infrastructure.
Government Administration
Responsibilities
Conducts nuclear density tests on subgrade, base and asphaltic concrete pavement
Conducts pavement evaluations in the field
Coordinates test and inspection results with engineers, inspectors and material producers and suppliers
Investigates compaction problems associated with hot mix asphaltic concrete
Maintains and calibrates equipment
Performs tests and inspection duties
Records test data on worksheets and performs calculations to convert raw data into specific units of measurement
Secures, logs in and prepares samples of raw materials or manufactured materials at various stages of production for testing
Drives/travels to laboratories, manufacturing plants, points of supply, warehouses and project sites to monitor status of programs
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned
Handles material or production problems referred by less experienced inspectors
Prepares and maintains inspection or test reports and issues material reports
Reviews plans and material specifications for changes in material requirements
Advises supervisor of inspection activities and problems at plants and assists in coordinating inspections
Orders equipment and supplies
Analyzes procedures to identify deficiencies and recommends improvements to management
Observes tests and inspections and reviews reports from other inspectors; performs quality assurance for tests and inspections
Qualification
Required
High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies
Material/Process Inspector I: No experience required (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent)
Material/Process Inspector II: 1 YEAR Laboratory work, material inspection or other eng-related work (experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent)
Material/Process Inspector III: 2 YEAR Laboratory work, material inspection or other eng-related work (experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent)
