Responsibilities
Develop, author, and maintain transmission engineering standards
Create new standards and significantly update outdated standards, including:
Transmission underground standards (potheads, riser structures, pole-head configurations)
Integration of new materials and technologies (HTLS conductors, lightweight steel poles)
Updating standard drawings, configurations, and compatible units
Ensure standards align with regulatory, safety, and operational requirements
Apply practical transmission design knowledge to ensure standards are buildable and technically sound
Evaluate electrical system behavior and design implications of standards changes
Support integration of new technologies into transmission systems
Modify and update engineering drawings using AutoCAD
Maintain and update technical documentation, standards manuals, and related materials
Work closely with engineering teams, operations, construction, maintenance, and training groups
Support technology pilots and transition of new standards into operational processes
Conduct impact assessments for new standards and technologies
Identify gaps, risks, and improvement opportunities in transmission standards and processes
Qualification
Required
Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Structural, or Mechanical) – mandatory
Engineer 3 level with 5–7+ years of relevant transmission engineering experience
Proven experience in authoring and developing transmission engineering standards
Strong understanding of transmission systems, components, and design principles
Practical transmission design experience is strongly preferred
Transmission engineering standards development
Power systems and electrical engineering fundamentals
Knowledge of regulatory frameworks (CPUC, NERC)
Familiarity with engineering tools and standards processes
Onsite presence in Pomona every Wednesday and Thursday is mandatory
Preferred
AutoCAD (preferred) for standards drawing updates
