Maint Section Assistant II-III - Claude

The Texas Department of Transportation is seeking a Maintenance Section Assistant Supervisor II-III to oversee the daily operations of the Claude Maintenance Section. This role involves leading crews, ensuring safety compliance, and responding to emergency situations to maintain effective roadway maintenance.

Government Administration

Responsibilities

Assists the maintenance section supervisor in overseeing the work of the section and contracted crews including scheduling equipment, material and personnel necessary for section projects
Assists with planning, coordinating and implementing emergency response to inclement weather, accidents, and hazardous spills affecting area roadways
Completes reports on damaged railings and bridges
Ensures all projects follow established safety guidelines
Inspects road conditions, work-in-progress and work completed by the crews and contractors
Maintains records on materials, supplies and personnel
May operate light and heavy roadway equipment
Responsible for operations of section in absence of supervisor
Trains employees on the use of equipment and procedures
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned
Assists in budget preparation for the section
Handles public complaints
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned

Required

High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies
6 years in roadway maintenance or construction related work for Maint Section Assistant II
7 years in roadway maintenance or construction related work for Maint Section Assistant III
Must have a Class 'A' Commercial Driver's License (CDL) at time of application
Considerable knowledge of methods, procedures, equipment, and materials used in intermodal transportation engineering construction and maintenance work
Considerable knowledge of materials used in highway/bridge construction and maintenance
Considerable knowledge of the Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices
Considerable knowledge of inventory/stock control procedures
Considerable knowledge of applicable industry safety standards, guidelines, and specification codes
Expert skill in scheduling work assignments
Expert skill in using light highway equipment
Proficient skill in public relations for maintaining effective working relationships with individuals and groups, both internal and external
Proficient skill in leading, assigning, reviewing, and monitoring the work of others
Proficient skill in maintaining a safe and effective working relationship with others
Extensive knowledge in applicable plans, specifications and estimates preparation, review, processing and compliance requirements
