Transportation Engineer Tech II

The Texas Department of Transportation is seeking a Transportation Engineer Technician II to join its design group in Houston. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing designs for traffic signals, Intelligent Transportation Systems, and roadway illumination, while also assisting in the training of less experienced technicians.

Government Administration

Responsibilities

Assists in on-the-job training of less experienced technicians
Performs advanced drafting and calculations in support of design activities; develops graphic presentations that include distinctive design features
Performs intermediate design work
Reviews entire sets of plans for format, drafting and calculation errors and correlation of plans and specifications
Writes general notes, specifications and provisions
Prepares field notes
Prepares quantity summaries
Prepares roadway design, traffic control, lighting, and signal plans
Uses automated programs, interactive graphics and the Design and Construction Information System
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned

Required

High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies
2 years of experience in drafting, design, plan preparation. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent)
Valid driver's license

Preferred

Experience with MicroStation, OpenRoads, or AutoCAD for plan preparation
Previous work on traffic signal, Intelligent Transportation Systems, or roadway illumination projects
Familiarity with traffic engineering principles, construction plans, and design standards
Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Relevant certifications (e.g. Transportation or Civil Engineering related certifications) are a plus
