Texas Highways Editorial Intern

The Texas Department of Transportation is looking for a college student to work full time as a summer intern with their editorial team. This role involves assisting with various editorial duties, including fact checking and writing for Texas Highways magazine and ancillary publications.

Responsibilities

Assist with fact checking for Texas Highways magazine and ancillary publications
Gather and fact check information for Annual State Travel Guide
Scan and upload archival content to texashighways.com
Write web stories and perform research for print stories
Assist with a variety of editorial administrative tasks as needed
Perform other duties as assigned

Required

Must be a student in high school or other educational institution or accepted into a college, university or educational institution
Must be at least 16 years of age, a student currently enrolled in high school or any institution of higher education to include a trade/vocational school
Employees at least 18 years of age with valid driver's license may be assigned driving duties and may use power tools
Some skill in using computers and applicable programs, applications, and systems
Ability to communicate effectively
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
Ability to follow applicable safety standards, practices and procedures
Ability to protect sensitive and confidential information
Light work: Lift up to 20 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs
Sitting - prolonged periods of time
Standing - prolonged periods of time
Repetitive Motion - substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
Close Visual Acuity - work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading

Preferred

Journalism majors with experience at their college newspaper or another publication preferred
Rising junior or senior standing
