Resource Development VISTA
Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce is associated with Big Brothers Big Sisters Greater Fredericksburg, which focuses on mentoring youth. The Resource Development VISTA will enhance volunteer engagement, strengthen resource development, and increase mentorship opportunities to support youth in the community.

Responsibilities
Promote volunteer recognition programs on social media and the newsletter, such as the Governor’s Volunteerism Awards and the Serve Virginia Honor Roll
Conduct outreach to engage partner organizations (such as Kiwanis, Lions Club, or local schools) in National Days of Service and Serve Virginia min-grant programs
Assist in the development of an Alumni Engagement Plan in preparation for the 60th anniversary of Big Brothers Big Sisters Greater Fredericksburg (2027)
Assist in enhancing the Recruitment Plan to increase the pool of potential volunteers by making it an actionable and measurable document
Attend outreach opportunities and host booths related to potential BBBS volunteer recruitment
Identify and interview Big Brothers and Big Sisters volunteers and AmeriCorps alumni with inspiring Stories of Service and write blogs and/or video these interviews
Assess the effectiveness of existing methods of solicitation and determine strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats
Assist in the development of a Marketing Plan that sets a plan for how various media formats can reach specific target audiences
Develop a sustainable social media and blog calendar with standard holidays and important dates and generate content to be published
Research potential CRM systems to be used for a donor database
Compile a list of alumni, current and past individual donors, current and past board members, and current and past sponsors
Develop standard template language to put in grants by reviewing past grant applications, local community data, and the current BBBS Message Guide
Apply for 4-7 new grants that could increase capacity to conduct programming or to improve operations
Fill in the Master Planning calendar with important resource development dates, such as key moments in cash flow, grants, fundraising events, and outreach events
Increase capacity to host more Match Activities for Bigs and Littles by contacting local businesses to secure in-kind donations, deals, and potential event opportunities, as well as organize workshops by professionals, such as financial literacy
Create a Big for a Day model that could engage youth on the waitlist and potential volunteers, including a proposed policy and procedure that fits within our existing standards
Coordinate planning of potential activities by contacting facility, arranging for volunteers, and creating informational flyers
Coordinate Holiday Assistance donation drive by contacting Toys for Tots and other in-kind donors and arranging for volunteers
Fill in the Master Planning calendar with important match activity dates, such as key moments in planning, communications, and follow-through. Update or draft any associated policies and procedures
Qualification
Required
Must be 18 or older on their start date
Must hold one of the following citizenship/legal residency statuses: US citizen, US National, Lawful Permanent Resident Alien, and persons legally residing in a state that have any of the following legal residency classifications: refugee, asylum or asylee, temporary protected status, or deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA) status
Must pass a criminal history check (conducted by AmeriCorps)
Must be able to commit to full-time service for one year; other jobs or commitments such as education are allowable but require approval and cannot conflict with the VISTA's service schedule
Excellent writing skills
Strong computer skills
Communication skills by phone, in-person, or email
Motivated with a passion for helping youth in the community through capacity building
Valid Virginia Driver's license and vehicle insurance, or other means of reliable transportation
Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED
