Middle School Program Coordinator

GirlUp GVL is dedicated to creating safety, belonging, and opportunity for middle school girls. The Middle School Program Coordinator is responsible for designing and facilitating engaging programming, building strong relationships with students and families, and ensuring a positive program culture.

Responsibilities

Champion the emotional, social, academic, and physical well-being of all middle school program participants
Partner with the Executive Director and Program Team to design, plan, and execute high-quality after-school and in-school programming aligned with GirlUp GVL’s mission
Lead the daily execution of programming with consistency, preparedness, and attention to detail, ensuring a safe, engaging, and structured environment for students
Establish and maintain a positive, inclusive program culture by modeling healthy relationships, maintaining high expectations, and practicing effective classroom and group management
Build strong, trusting relationships with students through consistent presence, reliability, and developmentally appropriate support
Coordinate and facilitate in-school group lessons in partnership with designated middle schools, maintaining professional, collaborative relationships with school staff
Communicate clearly, respectfully, and compassionately with parents, school partners, volunteers, and mentors, including during sensitive or challenging situations
Provide leadership and guidance to volunteers and mentors, ensuring they are prepared, supported, and aligned with program goals and student needs
Represent GirlUp GVL with professionalism and integrity in school settings, community events, meetings, and program-related activities
Ensure the safety and well-being of participants at all times, including during transportation, field trips, and off-site activities, while maintaining organized, welcoming, and well-managed program spaces that promote structure, responsibility, and pride among participants
Support the implementation of student goal-setting and growth activities that align individual needs with overall program outcomes through Individual Success Planning
Uphold confidentiality and adhere to the highest standards of ethical and professional conduct
Contribute to continuous program improvement through reflection, feedback, and collaboration with the Executive Director and Program Team
Maintain consistent visibility and direct engagement with students during programming, events, and school-based activities
Assist with grant reporting and documentation by providing data, event and programming photos, stories, and program updates
Support special projects such as annual reports, strategic planning retreats, or staff professional development days
Participate in board meetings, preparing materials or presenting updates as requested
Assist with facility oversight (ensuring safe, clean, and functional program spaces)
Help coordinate special events, fundraisers, or community awareness activities
Contribute to crisis management and incident response when needed
Stay current on youth development trends, best practices, and local resources to bring new ideas to the organization
Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall success of GirlUp GVL

Required

2+ years of experience working directly with middle school–aged youth in educational, afterschool, nonprofit, or community-based settings
Experience in planning and facilitating group-based programming or activities for youth, creating structured, engaging, and developmentally appropriate environments
Demonstrated classroom or group management skills, fostering a positive, safe, and respectful program culture
Familiarity with trauma-informed, restorative, or youth-centered practices
Ability to connect with middle school students in a developmentally appropriate way
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including delivering sensitive messages professionally and compassionately
Conflict resolution and problem-solving skills
Reliable, punctual, and dependable with a strong work ethic
High school diploma or GED required; bachelor's degree in education, social work, youth development, human services, or a related field preferred
Valid driver's license with clean driving record and reliable transportation; ability to safely transport students, as needed
CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
Strong organizational skills; able to manage multiple projects, support program logistics, and coordinate schedules and spaces
Proficiency with Google Workspace; familiarity with social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook
Team-oriented, collaborative, and able to foster trust and accountability with colleagues, volunteers, and community partners
Confident public speaker and organizational representative
Culturally responsive, patient, empathetic, and emotionally aware

Preferred

Experience working across middle school, high school, and college-age populations
Familiarity with case management, individualized success planning, or student support systems
Comfort using data, documentation, and progress monitoring to inform student support strategies
Experience collaborating with families, school staff, mentors, volunteers, and community partners
Leadership experience with staff, volunteers, or interns
Experience managing budgets, operations, or program logistics in a nonprofit or youth-serving organization
Strong networking and relationship-building skills
Confident public speaker and positive organizational representative
Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred
