They are seeking an Education Law Attorney to advocate for students, parents, and families in education law matters, focusing on special education rights, disability accommodations, and Title IX investigations.

Responsibilities

Represent clients in education law matters, including
Special education disputes under IDEA
Section 504 accommodation and discrimination claims
Title IX investigations and hearings
K–12, undergrade and graduate students with discipline matters, including suspensions, expulsions, and due process hearings
Conduct client consultations and ongoing strategy sessions by phone, Zoom, and in person
Advocate for clients in IEP meetings, manifestation determination reviews, resolution sessions, disciplinary hearings, and negotiations with school districts
Draft complaints, responses, motions, memoranda, correspondence, and settlement agreements
Prepare clients for hearings, meetings, and investigations
Manage cases from intake through resolution, ensuring deadlines and compliance
Collaborate closely with attorneys, paralegals, experts, and consultants
Lead and delegate to your support team to deliver high-quality, client-centered representation
Conduct legal research and writing using Westlaw
Address collateral consequences impacting academic placement, graduation, and future opportunities

Qualification

Required

Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
Admission to the State Bar of Michigan (required)
Experience or strong interest in Special education law (IDEA, IEPs, due process hearings)
Section 504 and disability accommodations
Title IX investigations and proceedings
K–12 undergrade and graduate student discipline
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Exceptional client service skills
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Positive, professional attitude
Ability to analyze, collaborate, and implement effective legal strategies
Ability to travel throughout Michigan for client matters

Preferred

Hearing, administrative, or advocacy experience preferred
