Data Engineer II
Chewy is seeking a Data Engineer II to design and build reliable, high-performance data pipelines that power analytics and decision-making across the company. The role involves collaborating with AI, data science, and engineering teams to ensure data accuracy and readiness for analytics and AI, while optimizing data workflows and exploring emerging AI tools.

Responsibilities
Design, build, and maintain batch and streaming pipelines across Snowflake, AWS, and Kafka
Develop dbt Cloud models to standardize business metrics, enforce testing, and improve lineage visibility
Integrate data from multiple sources—including Kafka, APIs, S3, and internal systems—into unified datasets
Implement monitoring and alerting for data freshness, quality, and reliability
Collaborate with analysts, data scientists, and product partners to translate business requirements into scalable data solutions
Optimize pipelines for performance, scalability, and cost efficiency
Write clean, test-covered code and unit tests; apply secure coding principles
Ensure correct application of data validation and cleansing processes to all sources
Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and documentation to drive best practices
Contribute to AI-driven modernization initiatives, such as LLM-assisted data quality checks and automation frameworks
Qualification
Required
3–5 years of experience in data engineering or a related role
Strong proficiency in Python and SQL
Hands-on experience with Snowflake and dbt Cloud for modeling and orchestration
Familiarity with Kafka or other streaming systems
Hands-on Terraform proficiency to build and modify AWS/Snowflake data infrastructure—author simple modules, manage remote state/workspaces, and ship changes via CI/CD with rollback
Understanding of ETL/ELT patterns, data modeling, and workflow orchestration
Awareness of data governance, observability, and testing best practices
Curiosity about AI-assisted engineering and a mindset of continuous experimentation
Clear, proactive communication and strong cross-functional collaboration skills
Understanding of Agile methodology, GitHub and CI/CD pipelines
